DONE

Here they are... these three are the ones I painted and although I am not liking them they are finally done.....moving on.
This week I have been organizing my old projects so I can pack them up and move on to new ones.  So once I finish that I am going to start drawing more and trying to unload some of those that way I can save up to get one of my toys made. Slow and steady wins the race.  Oh and I discovered this new drawing material it is pretty cool it is called clay board.  So it really is just hard board with a coating of this clay on top but it makes the drawing surface extremely smooth and it is mounted on a frame/stand off  so it makes it look very important too.
ok yeah thats it....

Make a wish

Ok here are the plaster positives of the queen eyelash model.  There are four different pieces to each model and there are four models laid out in this pic.  I am in the process of making them smooth and cleaning up the air bubbles that formed hence the bondo all over the pieces.
I am almost done with the sanding and letting them dry out, and tonight I am going to pick up some gauche to paint them with whoo hoo.  I will post the final models by the end of the week end.  Next I have to figure out.... everything else  AWSOME. baby steps...
Here are those business cards I was talking about making like a week ago.. so I don't have the cards done yet or the faces on these guys which I am just going to make out of printed stickers but they are coming along.

The Queen

This is the first Hornygort that I have worked on and she is one of the two eye lashes.  She eye lashes are the characters in an illustration I had done a while ago.  Anyways I finished the rough sculpting of her and now I am going to cast her.  She will be a four piece mold.

So here I am mounting the four body parts at angles which I feel the will work with the flow of the plaster but, I am really bad at this part and often get air bubbles but that is nothing a little bondo can't fix.
So here are the four pieces lied in rubber, this is two coats.  Next step I am going to make the two or three part mother molds in plaster to support the rubber.

Tuesdays ...ummm less then productive

Broken Feet and Bad Plaster

So my plaster went bad and doesn't really want to set correctly so it is a lot weaker and that combine with my lazy mold making and impatience leads to broken feet.

But I was just playing around so I guess it is no big deal.

So this guy is going to hold my business card.  It is going to be that blue guy and it is going to step on my card and there is going to be a sqwashed something on the card.  It will be cool I promise and if not oh well I make plenty of things that are not cool.

So this hornygort venus may not look like I have done anything on it since I first posted it but I have, it is just driving me a little crazy.  I feel like I am just pretending that everything I am going to try is actually going to work when in the actual real world it isn't and I really don't know what the .... I am doing.  But don't worry trust me really I will figure it out or run away you know one or the other.

So tonight this will be finished and tomorrow it will be cast!

Illustrator is harder then drawing it out.

Brushable Rubber Casting

Start with a sulfur free clay positive, I use Klean Clay.

Mix rubber 1:1  for at least 6 mins. This is a brushable rubber called smooth on which I ordered from Poly-tek.  You can get it in different amounts but it is delivered fast and they have a good help line if you need to be talked through a procedure.

Spray anchored clay with release. The rubber gets really heavy and thick, make sure you anchor or your piece will fall over. This little man is simple in form and I plan on just covering him and cutting the under cut between his legs to pull him out when he is cast. This is the simplest one part mold and will need a small amount of touch up work because I am "Not about perfection".

After you mix the rubber really really well and it begins to thicken drip it over the clay, don't fuss with it though just cover it.  This middle pic is of the two parts of rubber before they are mixed and change color.

My biggest suggestion is mix really small batches of rubber and mix well because the set time is pretty short and the rubber needs to be mixed evenly or you will get clumps.

This last pic is the entire rubber mold. Next I will mix plaster and make a mother mold over the rubber to help support the mold when I pour into it.  Then once that is set I will take out the clay from the rubber and pour plaster into the mold and get my first cast.

And that is my version of sloppy casting methods .....

Mannetron Roto-casting Machine

Say hello to my future investment...this is the Mannetron 2X2.  This machine is a popular roto-casting machine and the only one I have bumped into for sale on the internet that seems to be what I want.  It comes in a few different sizes.  This particular size has the capability of casting 2 by 2 foot molds not objects but that is still pretty large in the way of any toy.  It rips away at a rate of 1/4 HP DC speed, I have not clue what that means or if it is even fast enough for vinyl....SO if you know anything about this please let me know.  I am going to call and ask about what it is really capable of soon. Now I just have to figure out raw material, molds, my toys, my branding, marketing, oh wait thats everything HA... ok well you have to start some where right?

In the past month

Ok so this is the first mock up I am working on I showed it like a month ago.. Now one month later she has feet woohoo and they are not even sculpted they are just there.  So it takes alot of cutting up ..."the Queen" to figure out how I really want her to look.  This is the picture I am basing her off of though and I am fighting with the fact that I think she needs to be really simple and not have arms and trying to stay true to my original sketches.  Anyways she is going to be a WICKED hottie with big ass eyelashes and such.

A. I finished moving ......for real this time.
B. I spent a lot of time with P and drawing monsters.
C. worked a lot on the NU project ....almost done YES!!!!
D. I have spent time will every one from school
E. I have been at the restaurant almost every week day night.
F. I am starting to plan how I am going to work through my own goals of starting a toy "thing"

So thats it one month of time and my life which who really cares soo now monsters and stuff.

NU poster project aka the never ending project

NU revisited

This is my secret life as a coed cheerleader revealed. Before I went to mass art I spent two years at Northeastern University in the athletic training department. Lets just say I really went to NU to cheerlead weird huh? Lindsey a cheerleader yeah well it's my alter personality. So I am doing this drinking awareness project with NU were I am illustrating posters that depict situations where and why students drink.

Situations about being drunk. This project has lasted the past two years and has been nothing but a head ach but since I have nothing else going on I decided to re-work my drawings for them again and when I say again I mean like the 4th time. So this batch of drawings had to do with their target student which as they put it are white athletes.

Well it is sort of funny because I cheered for NU for two years and we had our fun times as a team but not one of us ever drank a lot or regularly and we weren't even on scholarships. So I was looking through my pics to find models to draw from and I came across this pic. It is from Daytona beach 6 years ago. It is crazy to look back and see from far I have come to far off track I got haha. But anyways I thought I would share. Oh and I am also done moving and will be starting my monster stuff again.

Trying to get back on track

The start

This is just a starting point and I know there are going to be a lot of models before I decide on the first one but I have some serious free time this week so I think I might just bang out a few before I move back to mhead for good and look for a part time job. But anyways it is scary outside lighting and thunder so I think I am going to pop some PM's and pass out before I freak out....this is the worst thing about living alone night time storms.

Taking a break from the real world

This is what I have been doing for the past week....nothing. So I told you last week I was attending P's ballet so here are some funny pictures from that. Ummm.. other then that I have been moving stuff slowly back to Marblehead and trying to readjust to life back home and it has been really tough. Since I moved into Boston I swore I would never move back north and now that I am, I feel like a failure and on top of that I am moving home with out a job and or a plan. This past weekend has also showed me how life can be very enjoyable and at the same time really ugly and unfair. I was a difficult weekend and I discovered just how important family, friends and relationships are. On that note I forecast these next couple of weeks are going to be a roller coaster and knowing that I am going to not focus on what I don't have but what I do have and take it a bit slower. But I am still very motivated and I have found two manufactures in china that sound like a good fit for my vinyl stuff. So the plan for this week is to relax and go to the beach with the girls, catch up with mom, go out to dinner and tell Rachael Shepard I LOVE YOU !!!!! and oh of coarse more monsters haha..

At the beach with the Princess

This is P from the day we went to the beach and looked for hermit crabs.

Big choices made easy

It was way to hot to be in Boston. So I went home on Sunday and have been there ever since. I still can't find a Design job and skipped out on yet another waitressing job interview. Life after school is not at all what I expected..I am happy I am out and can start my life and at the same time I have no clue where or how to start. I don't want to work at a place I am going to be unhappy at but at the same time I need a job but that doesn't really matter when nobody is calling back. So this weekend I really had to descide what is best for moose and I. So I went home to Marblehead to figure it out.

Marblehead is like paradise to those who didn't grow up there. It is small, on the ocean, has tons of character and very sheltered. So when I go home I never have anything to do but this time I went back thinking that maybe it isn't so bad. On monday I got to work all day with my dad, we launched 4 boats and I got a tan. On tuesday I got to hang out with Peighton aka Princess P. P is my best friends daughter, she is three years old and is a force to be reckoned with. When I was home we got to go dinner, the mall and hermit crab hunting. I love P and since Kim her mom is expecting another I think I might steal her. HA just kidding but the point is she makes going home a new adventure every time. For that reason and many others I have decided to rent out my place and move home until I figure it all out. I am also going to sell my car if anyone is looking! I think this move will help me develop my hornygorts as well, I will have unlimited room and can get a part time job in the mean time. I promise to put up pics of Mhead up soon.. I left my camera in P's beach bag but I am lucky enough to go to her ballet show on saturday so I will get it then. Well thats all for now if anyone needs I place to live call me.

I am on Esty!

This is Goob and he just posted on Esty@ Lindzshep

You can find more of his friends if you go on and they are tagged under toys and monsters. I can't believe how long everything takes when you make stuff I don't think I am a real fan, plus I feel I little young to be sewing at home but what ever I get to hang out with me really creepy creations.

Round two Girls night out!!
hahaha that is all I have to say... look for pictures tonight I

Friday, June 6, 2008

Ok so I have 8 Horny Gorts so far and I set up an etsy account just to see if it works but I haven't put them up yet.. I am having a hard time letting them go:( I spend like 2 hours at least a piece on them and they come to life in my hands and now I have to say good bye? I am not crazy I swear I have always had this thing where I humanize the weirdest little thing like bugs and objects. But I know I have to because my goal is to spread the joy I put into my monsters so.. I will put them up on Esty at some point this weekend. I also started sculpting the vinyl toy but it is a lot harder when I actual have to pay attention to undercuts and pulls.

Tonight GIRLS NIGHT OUT ROUND 2 ..... haha watch out!

My business Partner

Oh by the way this is Moose, he is my partner in crime and tonight he is sporting my old Celtic's uniform for the game tonight.

Welcome to Prescott industries HEAD QUARTERS aka my front enterance.

OK not many people have ever stepped foot through my door, in fact I could probably count the number that has on both hands. So I though I would give you a look into where all the monsters are born. Its clean in the first pic and it presently looks like that in the last too. I hate clutter and right now it looks like rainbow bright threw-up all over my walls. It is a small room VERY small but I really don't mind I am lucking enough to have a space.

So...I have this really bad habit. I told you I was going to get a waitressing job what I didn't tell you is that waitressing SUCKS! But back to my bad habit. OK I do this thing where I work my self up to go apply ..application and all I even go and park....I walk by and then...I run away 90% of the time I never make it through the door. So I didn't make it through the door today again. But I did make some more Horny Gourts and tonight I am going to start sculpting the first toy I am going to send out to get roto-casted.

thats it not much progress ..

THE BEGINING

BOOOOOOOO!!............AWWWWWWW
It started.... welcome to the begining.

I am Lindz, 24 and from Boston MA. Today is the first day of travel on the road to the HORNY GORTS. I don't know what I am doing and I am gong into this blind and that is why I am writing it all down. I just graduated from 6 years of hiding in college and now I have to find a job...Well I never knew it would be so hard, after 100 emails plus I need a break so I am returning to "DOING MY OWN THING" So I bought a book on website design.. well I still can't use face book correctly but I am trying and it actual helped with the HTML coding. But anyways back to waitressing for me no job outlooks but I am not giving up yet. So "Doing it on my own" well I don't know what I am really doing ..urban vinyl, soft goods umm I still don't know but I had to start some where right so here is a sneak peek at what I have been working on...
